AIRBORNE LASSIE

AIRBORNE LASSIE

C-47A Skytrain, Placid Lassie, shortly after lifting off the runway, bound for the Fourth of July Salute to America Fly Over of Washington DC. Placid Lassie is a true D-Day veteran having pulled a glider, loaded with troops of the 101st Airborne Division. The glider landed approximately one mile inland of Utah Beach nearly two and a half hours before the first water-borne troops hit the beaches at Utah.

Photographed during the 2020 Fourth of July Fly Over of Washington DC.
