1976 Tyrrell P34

Six Wheeled Formula One Racer

The 1976 Tyrrell P34 was an attempt to reduce aerodynamic lift caused by exposed tires by using smaller tires placed behind a drag reducing frontend instead of a large wing that left the front tires exposed. Using four small tires would give equivalent grip of two larger tires hence, six wheels. The car had some success during its first Formula 1 racing season but, was ultimately let down by a lack of tire development from Goodyear.
